As part of the event, UPEACE awarded the title of “Doctor Honoris Causa in Humanities” to President Chinchilla in recognition of her leadership on matters of human security, peace and democracy as well as her commitment to public service and her achievement of being the first woman elected President of the Republic of Costa Rica.

UPEACE photo exhibition at the Palais des Nations

The exhibition consists of 45 photographs taken by and of refugees that have made a life for themselves since their relocation to Costa Rica under the auspices of UNHCR.

This event builds on the research work of a 2009 UPEACE graduate, Ms. Morea D. Steinhauer, which demonstrated the impact of photojournalism as a social research tool.
